Publishing does not close the work

A paper is defended before reviewers you never meet. A conference talk is defended in front of a room that can raise a hand and object on the spot.

We present results at scientific congresses because that is where the method faces the uncomfortable question: why that comparator, why that level of certainty, what was left out of the analysis. That scrutiny is part of the work, not an outreach extra.
